History Of Kia Sorento Engines

in Model
The Kia Sorento is a vehicle from the marque of the South Korean Auto major, Kia Motors. The year 2002 saw launching of Kia Sorento, a mid-size crossover SUV .

The first generation of this vehicle started in 2002 and ended in 2009. For the first generation Kia Sorento, you had two options in transmissions. One was a 5-speed manual and the second was a four-speed or five-speed automatic. During the pre-2005 models, the four-speed transmission was used and on the 2005 Sorrentos, the five-speed tip-tronic style automatic transmission was used. The engine used was a 3.5 liter 24-valve DOHC V6 manufactured by Hyundai and this could produce a horsepower of 192 at 5500 rpm and a torque of 217 lb.ft. at 3000 rpm.

This vehicle is considered very efficient and capable off-road and it is a four-wheel drive system. It also features a low range gearing. Another sports package in the LX base model which has a 5-speed manual transmission is also available. There are three models such as the two-wheel drive, four-high and the four-low. You have on-dash indicators to indicate if the Four Wheel Drive System is active.

4 wheel disc brakes are common on all the models. Another common feature is a 21.1 gallon or 79.9 liter fuel tank. A ladder frame design which is usually used on trucks is used on the chassis of the Sorento and hence it has more rigidity than its counterparts.

Sorento was upgraded in 2007 and the upgrades included a change from the 3.5 liter Sigma to a 3.8 liter Lambda and this could double the towing ability of the vehicle and also increased the horsepower from 192 to 262. Instead of the 5-speed manual transmissions, the 5-speed Sportmatic tip-tronic automatic transmission became the standard for all the trims.

Kia Sorento got another face-lift in the year 2009. Though sales began in Canada in 2008 itself, in America, sales started only in April 2009.
The second generation of Kia Sorrento started in 2009 and continues till now. This redesigned Sorento had the codename XM and the launching of the second generation took place in South Korea. For the first time, Kia started manufacturing its models in the United States.

After being absent during the period from 2007 to 2010, the four-cylinder model makes a re-entry to the North American soil. This model has a unibody unlike the erstwhile old-style frame. A transverse engine and an all-independent suspension are other features. Since this model weighs much less than the old model, the performance and economy have improved to a great extent.

The new Kia Sorento for the model year 2011 will have Kia UVO for the first time. The New Zealand Auto car magazine has voted the XM Sorento as the SUV of the year and calls it a "great looker, does absolutely everything as it should. Engine is world class". The July 2010 issue of the American Magazine Consumer Reports gives the Kia Sorento EX V6 model an Excellent overall score. These accolades prove that this vehicle is truly a world-class vehicle.
